ABOUT THE INSTALLATION
In 2024, RxART announced the completion of a project realized in collaboration with the Estate of Sol LeWitt at the new 82,000-square-foot headquarters of the Child Mind Institute Center of Excellence in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. The project consisted of two wall drawings, #691 and #784, which were each originally created by LeWitt and exhibited in 1995. Today, in this new context, they greet children and their families with a burst of color upon exiting the elevator on two treatment floors. A captivating time-lapse video captures the work of five artists—experts from the LeWitt Estate—who brought the wall drawings to life over the course of two weeks.
ABOUT THE HOSPITAL
The Child Mind Institute is the leading independent nonprofit in children’s mental health. The Institute provides gold-standard, evidence-based care, delivering educational resources to millions of families each year, training educators in underserved communities, and developing tomorrow’s breakthrough treatments.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Sol LeWitt (b. 1928, Hartford, CT, d. 2007) is regarded as a founder of both Minimal and Conceptual art. LeWitt incorporated seriality in his work to imply the passage of time or narrative. He came to fame in the late 1960s with his wall drawings and “structures” (a term he preferred to “sculptures”) but was prolific in a wide range of media including drawing, printmaking, photography, painting, installation, and artist's books. LeWitt has been the subject of hundreds of solo exhibitions in museums and galleries around the world since 1965.
