OUR IMPACT

Recognizing that art can be an effective source of comfort and positivity, RxART has made the experience of healthcare spaces less intimidating for millions of pediatric patients and their families. We accomplish this through large-scale, site-specific art installations that enhance patient and employee well-being.

With this pioneering and interdisciplinary approach, RxART is creating new models for upgrading healthcare environments worldwide and posing powerful answers to questions around how to improve the patient experience throughout the medical system.

The RxART coloring book, now in its ninth edition, is available free of charge at 85 hospitals and clinics located in 17 states.

A PEDIATRIC UNIT TRANSFORMED

This segment from CBS Los Angeles highlights RxART’s project at Cedars-Sinai, for which three artists—Urs Fischer, Laura Owens, and Sam Falls—transformed all 16 patient rooms in the pediatric wing. Watch the video to visit one-year-old patient Anna in her room covered floor to ceiling with colorful brushstrokes, and hear from a pediatric nurse about the value of turning the children’s focus away from the medical equipment.

CONVERTING A SCANNER INTO ART

Created by the staff at Children's National Hospital to thank RxART, this video features child life specialists explaining how artist Takashi Murakami's joyful imagery made pediatric patients feel less threatened and turned the scanner suite into a more fun and inviting space.

ST. MARY'S INTERACTIVE MURAL

The RxART wall mural designed by artist Rob Pruitt at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children was fabricated with dry-erase material so that patients can draw directly on its surface. Watch this creative activity double as a form of physical therapy for children with impaired fine motor skills.

Change Makers

Individuals from our expansive community share their experiences working with RxART on projects which create meaningful change in hospitals and beyond.

Creating Art with Purpose

The Haas Brothers partnered with RxART in 2022 to design, fabricate, and install a playful sculpture in the lobby of Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C.

“We believe art has the unique ability to bring joy to any setting,” says Martha Parra, the hospital’s former Vice President of Clinical Support Services. “This incredible sculpture promises to be a source of inspiration and wonder for all of our patients, families, and employees.”
