ABOUT THE INSTALLATION
In 2017, RxART collaborated with artists Sam Falls, Urs Fischer, and Laura Owens to revitalize the pediatric inpatient rooms at Cedars-Sinai’s Maxine Dunitz Children’s Health Center. Each artist contributed original designs, which were meticulously installed on the ceilings and walls of 16 inpatient rooms across the unit. Instead of enduring a sterile environment during extended stays, patients were enveloped in vibrant artwork that sparked their imaginations and offered uplifting distractions throughout the healthcare experience.
This project was made possible by the generous support of Maurice Marciano with additional support provided by Peri Arenas, Florence and Serge Azria, Mara Buxbaum, Gagosian, Kiehl’s Since 1851, the Jerry and Terri Kohl Family Foundation, the McCrea Foundation, Nathalie Marciano, Nordstrom, the Saban Family Foundation, the William E. Weiss Foundation, as well as the RxART Advisory Board and RxART Advocates: Olivia Marciano, Jamie G. Manné, Aimee Gabbard, Alex Gaty, and Lauren Jack.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Sam Falls (b. 1984, San Diego, CA) received his BA from Reed College in 2007 and his MFA from ICP-Bard in 2010. Though trained as a photographer, Falls often combines the medium with painting and sculpture to explore the potential of combining color, digital renderings, and natural processes. Falls also makes use of materials borrowed from nature, exploring notions of temporality, change, and perception. He lives and works in New York City. The artist’s work has been featured in exhibitions at LAXART, Los Angeles, CA; the Pomona College Museum of Art, Claremont, CA; and the International Center of Photography, New York, NY. His art can also be found in the collections of various institutions including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA; Centre Pompidou, Paris; and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA. Falls is represented by 303 Gallery, Galerie Eva Presenhuber, and Jessica Silverman Gallery.
Urs Fischer (b. 1973, Zurich, Switzerland) explores the potential of materials to create works that amaze and bewilder the viewer. Through scale distortion, illusion, and the juxtaposition of common objects, his sculptures, paintings, and large-scale installations explore themes of perception and representation while maintaining witty and humorous undertones. The artist lives and works between Los Angeles and New York City. Solo exhibitions of the artist’s work include the Modern Institute, Glasgow; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA; New Museum, New York, NY; Gagosian Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA; and Sadie Coles HQ, London; among many others. Fischer is represented by Gagosian Gallery.
Laura Owens (b. 1970, Euclid, OH) incorporates a wide and imaginative range of subjects and techniques in her paintings. Owens borrows from modernist movements such as Color Field, Op Art, and Pattern and Decoration; from European painters like Henri Rousseau and Toulouse-Lautrec; and from craft mediums such as textile and embroidery. Owens received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1992 from the Rhode Island School of Design and her Master of Fine Arts in 1994 from the California Institute of the Arts. She lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Her paintings are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA; and the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, PA.
